Lunar Embassy is a company created in 1980 by Dennis Hope, who calls himself “The owner of the moon”, but, where does this idea come from?
The name Dennis Hope has been in the news on more than one occasion, however he is best known for stating to have claimed ownership of the moon and other celestial bodies in the Solar System decades ago.
How did this happen?
For this, he based his claim on an alleged loophole in the Outer Space Treaty of 1967, an agreement in which different countries established rules of responsibility for the exploration, use and exploitation of space. This agreement mentions that countries cannot claim sovereignty over any celestial body, however, the documents did not, according to Dennis, prohibit private individuals (ordinary people) from claiming sovereignty.
Dennis, basically notified through a letter to the United Nations, his proclamation as owner of the moon and 9 other celestial bodies, including Mars, Venus and Mercury.
Thus, for more than 40 years he has sold land in the Solar System, and has been interviewed and portrayed hundreds of times in television programs and documentaries, being questioned about his project, however it is this same action, which he uses in his favor, noting: There are thousands of interviews, documentaries and articles about myself, Dennis Hope, and the Lunar Embassy ®, there is a reason for that.
While Dennis asserts the legitimacy of his business, it is questioned by experts, who point out that the agreements apply equally to private citizens. Despite this, there is no record of the Lunar Embassy having faced serious legal problems.
According to the official Lunar Embassy website, they are the only legitimate sellers of properties on the moon, and that they already have over 6,000,000 buyers of space land.
Some well-known figures have been part of the business as clients, such as Tom Cruise, George Lucas, Tom Hanks, former Presidents George Bush and Ronald Reagan, among others. Although these figures have bought or received these “plots”, nothing assures the legitimacy of these deals.
