What does outer space smell like?

Have you ever wondered what space smells like? Eau de Space, aims to bring you closer to it.

Why did we choose this?

What started as a project is now a business worth more than half a million dollars. With nearly 32,000% over the desired funding on Kickstarter and Indiegogo campaigns, Eau de Space claimed to be a fragrance with the smell of Outer Space.

More about this product

Eau de Space is a fragrance created by NASA, to be used to train astronauts before going to space missions.

After being placed as a Campaign, it becomes a complete success to the public who have been wondering ´What would space smell like´. All information to develop these products has a scientific basis, including a fragrance from space developed by NASA in 2008, descriptions from astronauts, and chemists specializing in recreating the scent.

The scent itself is a matter of debate as there are no exact descriptions, to create it, they recollected information regarding the materials present in space and their smell, astronauts' statements and different research on the subject. However, probably we will never figure it out (literally).

Today the product is a success in terms of sales and they have even developed a second fragrance; Eau de Luna, a fragrance with the scent of the moon.

However, despite the large number of sales, the aroma is not what users imagined. Clearly, perfumes are often associated with pleasant scents, the problem is that Eau de Space recreates mineral-based scents, which causes its smell to be associated by buyers with gunpowder, burnt materials, metal and so on. Some even mention that the perfume generates a low mood or even ‘fear’. On the other hand, some users highlight the uniqueness of the product, with some noting that ‘that's what makes it different’.

Should you buy it?

If you are an enthusiast of space and the wonders that surround it, this is definitely something to add to a collection. If you want to buy it for everyday use, you can check out some of the reviews on their website or official distribution centres, but it should be noted, that most of the comments regarding the aroma are negative.

You can find Eau de Space and Eau da Luna at €44,62.
